About Me

After spending several years chasing a career in the music industry, I decided to try my hand at writing about it. Since 2005, I've been the About.com Guide to Folk Music. In addition to the news, interviews, reviews, history and commentary I write and manage on that site, I'm the Roots Music Correspondent for Sound magazine and News Editor at the new NoDepression.com.

My work has also appeared in Billboard and Performer magazines, and online at AfterEllen.com and Rollingstone.com (for Real/Rhapsody). Formerly Editor of Seattlest.com, I still contribute posts about music and politics when I can.

When I'm not writing about music and musicians, I spend a lot of time making my own music, playing guitar, practicing my trumpet, and attending shows in Seattle's vibrant music scene. I've written a small handful of novels, and am working on a nonfiction book about the new music industry.

I live in Seattle with a big grey cat named Grace, and my lovely blonde Martin acoustic—Honey Butter.
